Parvati - if u consider what the govts all around the world are spending on developing weapons, sending rockets and trying to find life in mars and doing loads of unnecessary research on useless things, y cant they spend on improving the life of a common man? The term poverty can become obsolete - if a man wishes to..There are many living examples of how one can be of benefit to the society..Eg..Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Mata Amritanadamayi etc..That is what I am trying to say here..According to me - my work should benefit the common man..If I am able to discover a more cheap proactive mechanism to detect Tsunamis, earth quakes using sensors and satellites, and protect millions - then this could give me an inner satisfaction..I would prefer to work on these type of things rather than finding ways to improve methods to provide broadband for all!
I am still wondering y children abandon their parents..I think the fault lies in the parents!! If they had brought up the children with good moral values - then they wuldnt do this..Thus a proper education teaching appropriate moral values to children is imperative..
If government thinks to help them, they can easily do. The govt should organize a team to find the struggling old people and help them or give them some amount of money as pension every month. The govt should use the beggars for the small works of govt, and should allot land and houses for them. The one or two like us think about this is not going to do any for them, if all people thing like this, we can see a big change. We can be software engineers or space scientist with this can we do any thing for poor. What are we going to achieve by finding new planets or sent rocket for moon, if here the people struggle for a single work food (oru velai sappadu).
arumaiyana karuthukal jeevan :)... if u c the reason y there are beggers is that they want to beg..they are lazy to work! ippadi patta vangala naama enna panna mudiyum?we cant do anything...even in london there are homeless people considering the fact that the govt gives free homes to homeless ppl..but still they want to sleep on the roads!Ivangala thiruthave mudiyathu..
Programs and latest technology has
made us forget the reality in life...If u really see things around the world..we know how gifted u r...People today are trying to put all efforts in finding out what a robot needs but tend to forget what a human needs...Selfishness and greediness
are playing amajor role in todays society...Ithellam vittu konajm ulagatha pathiyum yosikkanum...namma suthi enna nadakkuthunnu aaraichi pannanum...Yes such a touching blog...

Awesome post! I also used to feel the same all the time. And since I am also in research, there have been many times I have questioned myself if my research was of any use to someone. True, research does not have immediate results...But in the long run it does help people... But agreed, in my humble opinion, more resources can be diverted to address the basic issues such as poverty etc...but the reality is different ...what to do? I am glad that many people are thinking about this and the collective consciouness will bring about some great changes soon (hoping)!
Thanks a lot Sattvic..As I inferred ur research is based on bio processing (if I am right)..- so maybe u culd have something to do - that culd benefit the ppl :) -One solution wuld be to devise out methods to improve agricultural production - this culd help the poor farmers in tamil nadu right :)..
